On the first Tuesday in November, a racing festival culminating in the Emirates Melbourne Cup, undoubtedly stops a whole nation.
Raised in glorious salute after the race, displayed in museums, reproduced on badges, socks, t-shirts and ties, the Emirates Melbourne Cup trophy has become synonymous with the glamour and majesty of the race.
For a thoroughbred owner in Australia and indeed now the world, there are many races, rich in prize money, but the Emirates Melbourne Cup remains the most coveted.
Hardy Brothers Jewellers, like the Cup, are part of Australia's history. Hardy Brothers Jewellers, proud of its own tradition is a family business whose history is slightly older than that of the Emirates Melbourne Cup, with our first store opening its doors in Sydney in 1854. (The Cup was first run in 1861).
This year again, the Victoria Racing Club have commissioned Hardy Brothers Jewellers to create the Emirates Melbourne Cup to be lovingly hand crafted in Australian 18ct Yellow Gold.
Hardy Brothers Jewellers CEO Stuart Bishop and his award winning team of craftsmen are proud to be the official makers of the Emirates Melbourne Cup. It is made up of 34 pieces of hand-beaten 18ct Gold, with a base in French polished Black Wattle and a total weight of 1,650 grams, the finished trophy is valued at over $80,000. The timeless craftsmanship of the Cup has not changed since 1919 with pins and rivets still used instead of modern solder, retaining the heritage and tradition of the Emirates Melbourne Cup.
Also crafted for the race that stops the nation are the accurate Sterling Silver, Gold plated miniatures for the Trainer, the Jockey, the Breeder and the Strapper of the Emirates Melbourne Cup winner, taking the total value of the trophies to over $100,000.
