CHOOSING A DIAMOND - THE 6 C'S

With so much expectation riding on every piece, Hardy Brothers Jewellers puts precision, time and passion into selecting and presenting each and every precious Gem. After all, a Diamond is a lifetime investment. Our quality standards known as the 6 C’s – Carat, Cut, Colour, Clarity, Certification and Confidence – ensure each Diamond’s characteristics are of the finest pedigree. It is a level of commitment that confirms our standing as one of the world’s finest makers of engagement rings, cocktail rings and other Diamond jewellery and admired as Australia’s most prestigious jeweller.

CARAT

Carats are the weight used to measure the mass of a diamond. One carat is equal to 200 milligrams or roughly the equivalent of 0.007 ounces.

CUT

The cut refers to the way in which a diamond has been cut and polished from its original natural rough state. Not to be confused with the shape of a diamond. The cut examines the proportions, symmetry and how well the Diamond returns light. Nature is responsible for marks and colour, but the diamond cutter is the one who unlocks the true beauty of a diamond.

Popular shapes for diamonds include princess, heart, pear, round brilliant, oval, marquise and emerald.

Choosing a Diamond - well cut, deep cut, shallow cut, too deep cut, too shallow cut

COLOUR

Less or no colour or a 'D' on the universal colour scale is higher in value and will return the most light and generate the most sparkle. Diamonds can also be yellow, blue, green and pink.

CLARITY

Every diamond is unique. ‘Clarity’ focuses on the integrity and purity of the Gem. Naturally occurring features known as inclusions, provide a individual fingerprint within the diamond. Inclusions are fragments such as minerals or fractures that form within the diamond in the earth. Even though this is a natural part of a diamond, fewer inclusions mean more sparkle and are of a higher value.

CERTIFICATION

Independent reports and laboratory certificates are available with each Diamond purchased at Hardy Brothers Jewellers. This certificate warrants the authenticity of the Diamond and the Jewellery in which it is set.

CONFIDENCE
